In the past few months we have lost two special Sisters.
Sister Val Hicks, and Sister Teresa Kelly, you will be remembered, always
Sister Val Hicks passed away May 20, 2016. She had been with the Fort McMurray Public School District and a CUPE member for many years. Val helped many children at Beacon Hill School. Her family said she “passed away peacefully, with her family by her side” Val was a fighter, and was battling cancer. At stage 4, unfortunately there was a large tumor that could not be removed. The family had requested “In lieu of floral tributes, donations can be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Ave NW Edmonton, AB T6G1Z2.” May you be at peace, and may your memory live through your family and friends. You will be missed by many Sister Val Hicks.
Today, July 29, 2016, people will be gathering at Fort McMurray First United Church where a celebration of life will be held at 2pm. On July 17, 2016 the lord called, and brought
Teresa Kelly home with him. Our hearts are heavy for the members of Teresa’s family and her friends that will miss her dearly. At the request of the family, donations can be made in Teresa’s name to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Teresa was member of our CUPE Local for 10 years as she worked with Fort McMurray Public School District. Being the sole payroll person for both the teachers (ATA) and two hundred plus CUPE Members was a large job, Teresa did it well. May you rest in peace Teresa, you will be missed.
